MFO's Verdict On: Kosmea Skin Clinic Certified Organic Rose Hip Oil

The Product: Kosmea’s Skin ClinicTM Certified Organic Rose Hip Oil

Rose hip oil is the multi-tasking beauty product everyone is talking about. The much- hyped miracle ingredient was first bottled by the innovative, Australian family-owned Kosmea in 1993.

Kosmea sources its rose hip oil from a 100% USDA certified organic wild crop from the Maluti Mountains in Lesotho, South Africa. This process helps provide a sustainable economy for an otherwise poverty stricken community.

Setting itself apart from the pack, Kosmea extracts rose hip oil without heat or solvents, retaining all the anti-ageing vitamins, essential fatty acids and antioxidants to give your skin a healthy glow.

The Promise:

The benefits of Kosmea’s Skin ClinicTM Certified Organic Rose Hip Oil are undeniable – it protects, repairs and adds radiance to your skin like nothing else can.

Rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants, this easily-absorbed oil is a real treat for the skin. It may:
  • help smooth wrinkles
  • heals wounds and reduce appearance of scars, from minor burn scars to acne scars
  • moisturise and soothe dry, sensitive and sun-damaged skin
  • helps treat pigmentation, stretchmarks, cradle cap and nappy rash
  • nourish and hydrate ageing skin
  • balance oily skin
  • reduce the appearance of blemishes
  • Great for giving that glow to dull, tired skin!
It is free of harmful chemicals, colorants, fragrances, mineral oils and animal products – it is simply ‘skincare as nature intended.’

Put to the Test:

The instruction reads like this:

Apply 2-3 drops to slightly damp skin morning and night after cleansing and before applying your daily moisturiser. Applying to slightly damp skin will allow for the oil to absorb quicker and deeper into the skin.

This is how one drop of Kosmea's Rose Hip oil looks like:

And it covers a lot of area as it is. I use about 2 drops to massage onto 2 cm. long stretch marks on each butt cheek, which I got while pregnant with Xavi. In two months, the angry, red stretch marks faded well enough for me to expose my butt cheeks if I wanted to. Not that I want to, but just to say, they're practically indiscernible unless scrutinized. Wahaha.

I love that it absorbs easily and does not leave an oily film. While the oil is dark, it does not stain clothes.

Seeing how effective it is, I now use it in lieu of an eye cream. Let's see in a few months how it works for the skin around my eyes. I realize, I can also use it for the kids' minor scratches and booboos because of its healing properties.

Let me point out that this does NOT smell like roses, just because it's called a rose hip oil. It has a plant kind of smell, not entirely pleasant, but not gross in any way. It disappears eventually, so it's not a bother at all.

Passing the Verdict: I would buy again in a heartbeat before I run out. Because it has so many uses, it's useful and just handy to have around the house, doubling as an anti-ageing/beauty serum, moisturizer and first-aid for minor wounds.

Practical Tip: Kosmea suggests mixing the oil with foundation then applying onto our skin for a dewy, glowing complexion. This could be worth a try, and maybe I will do it soon.

While it has moisturuzing properties, it is also recommended that it be used in tandem with a moisturizer and should be applied prior to applying your favorite lotion or cream.

Price: Php600 for a 10 ml bottle, Php1000 for a 20 ml bottle

Point of Sale: In this Philippines, get Kosmea at Glamourbox.ph. Elsewhere, there's Amazon and Kosmea.

Ubusan ng Glamourbox

What do you give your girl friends this Christmas? When you're running out of time, it can be such a daunting question no?

My sister and I were brainstorming the other day and I was telling her about the latest trend in beauty today - beauty subscription boxes! Think BDJ Box and Glamourbox. But look what greeted us when we went to the site:

Yes, SOLD OUT! As my friend Karrots would say, "Ubusan ng glamour!" Congratulations to the Glamourbox team - Marie, Lia, Pam, Pammy and Gretchen!

I was invited to their launch a month ago, and it was no surprise that the boxes sold out. Because who wouldn't want to receive something like this? The box alone I want to keep! It's as nice and sturdy as an iPad box, ganda!

Well, the box doesn't come with cupcakes, but just wanted to share this with you. Berry loved it when I brought one home for her. So pretty! It was baked by Joy San Gabriel:

Ok, back to the box! This was what was inside the November box! Loved that it has cult beauty brands that are practically unheard of in Manila, but are making waves abroad. Such as the mascara from Australian brand Eye of Horus. The Ofra lip palette was such a good find too! I think one product alone, the box is "sulit" as it is. But of course, there were more finds inside, like scents for you and your man, as well as Yves Rocher and Shiseido products.

The November box was so good, every girl worth her beauty salt must have pounced on the December box! Oh well, there's always January!!!

The Buzz on Beauty is on Glamourbox

A few weeks ago my friend Marie told me about Glamourbox, a pioneering beauty website that she is a founder of. When she told me it was similar to Birchbox in the US, I just knew they were on to something fantastic for beauty fanatics. And guess what - Glamourbox launched today!

Basically, when you sign up for a subscription plan, you get a surprise package for the month, filled with beauty product samples especially curated for you. Of course if you fall in love with a product, you also get to shop the full sized version at their online store:

You find this exciting? Here's the 411 from Glamourbox.ph:

Reluctant to splurge on new beauty brands for fear of wasting money on products you aren’t even sure will work for you? Overwhelmed by the sheer number of new products available in the market? WE WERE TOO! But fret no more. We’ve created a whole NEW WAY for Filipina beauty addicts and newbies to cut through all the beauty babel and discover the beauty products best for them.

Glamourbox is the first premium online beauty subscription in the country, providing Filipinas with the best way to discover the latest beauty trends from across the globe.

Here’s how it works. Once you subscribe, each month you will receive an elegant box with five deluxe beauty samples from premium, boutique and niche brands delivered to your doorstep. We carefully curate each box with worthwhile items, so you don’t have to weed through all the duds out there. Then, if you end up falling in love with any of the products (and we are certain that you will!), you can visit our online boutique to purchase the full-size of your beauty finds, be they makeup, skincare, bath & body, haircare, fragrances or even beauty tools. So for Php595 a month, we’re essentially delivering the cosmetics counter (and more) to your home…just no troublesome sales people! And to top it off, you get up to three times the value of what you paid for. Um, did someone say S-T-E-A-L?

Now, the big shebang of the whole show is that we won’t be telling you which products you’ll be receiving each month. It’s a SURPRISE! And if you’re like us, this will be half the fun.

And if all this wasn’t enough, we’ve also gone ahead and created a Glamourbox community for our members to buzz about their beauty finds, receive invites to exclusive events and enjoy special promotions for products and services.

Itching to subscribe now? Well, you might as well know there's nothing to lose here. Just choose a monthly plan which you can just renew the following month. Or you may get a quarterly plan. The beauty in getting a quarterly plan is you are pretty much sure you'll get first dibs on the samples box. There are only a limited number of boxes per month, so it's always great to be a subscriber. Oh! And it makes a great gift for your cosmetics crazy friend or your skin care obsessed sister too!

Exciting no?! Come join the Glamourbox community at www.facebook.com/GlamourboxPH and follow them on Twitter @GlamourboxPH!
