Louis Phillip Kee Opens New Locations

Robina and Roseann Ko of Louis Phillip Kee Premier Salon have expanded beyond Fort BGC opening salons in Legaspi Village, C5 Acropolis and Banawe.

My friend Marcie invited me to the Acropolis branch to try out their services a few months ago, just in the nick of time too, as my hair had become too long and limp.

With a few snips by my stylist John, he brought new life to my hair! Tadaaaa!

Oh, this should be interesting for girls who rebond their hair! I got to bring home these Keratin infused shampoo and conditioners by Keratherapy and more hair care products from Schwarzkopf. These should be available at Louis Phillip Kee Premier Salons too.

I got to use the Keratherapy shampoo & conditioner and they do make your hair feel very moisturized. If you have dry, frizzy hair, Keratherapy will really tame it down!

Blow by blo

I love how the French appreciate that mussed up, bed head look. But here in Manila, it's all about having perfect hair. So on days when I need to look more special than usual (ahihihi) I head off to the neighborhood salon for a professional blowout. Thing with the place though is, they are closed to customers when they have a private event. So problematic right?

Good thing blo is open now. When I first saw their signage at Serendra months ago, I was sooo excited. Finally, a blowout salon that only does blowouts. No pesky questions like, do you want to do hot oil? Treatment? Color? You go in and you both know you only want one thing, a blowout, plain and simple.

I was invited to attend the media event at blo Rockwell when they opened last February 8, and where I got to experience for myself the full on blo treatment:

But before anything, we got to do a meet and greet with the owners - Howard Chua aka "The Mighty Hair-cules" and Edward Lee aka "The Hair-throb". I know right. I was expecting to meet arte girls with gorgeous hair and then tadaaa, the owners of this pink and girly salon turns out to be Howard and Edward! Well, they've got good hair, so who's to complain?

blo is a franchise from Canada and Howard shares he got the idea while watching a show on TV about a blow dry salon. He ran the idea by his wife, who agreed that there was no such thing yet in Manila. He approached a couple of blow dry bars and came across the original - blo, which started doing quick, affordable, catwalk-quality blow outs back in 2007. After going back to and fro with the owner, they got the franchise. Just like that. Like the hair gods meant it to be.

So they flew in Jackie (above), who trained the blo staff on how to do blowouts (I love her hair by the way).

So here's the blow by blow, on blo. They use Tridesign shampoo and conditioner for washing hair...

...And you get to choose from 7 styles in the hair menu, ranging from the razor-straight “Executive Sweet” to the runway-inspired “Pillow Talk".

Most of the hair styling products are also by Tridesign. Then of course, there's Elnett...

Because I wanted the Holly Would - which has plenty of curl and bounce, my hair got some extra attention. Hair was done in about an hour, from shampoo to blow dry.

Tadaaaa! Here I am with Kris aka OC Mom in Manila with our blow outs. Kris had a party to go to after, so perfect that she got her hair fixed and ready to go.

Meanwhile, I found myself heading to Greenhills to meet Karrots. So we could do our groceries at Unimart, squeeze in a visit to the new Zenutrients stall in Virra Mall and check out the ceramics shop in the home section of Greenhills tiangge, discovered via Rorie Carlos-Manzano aka @maisonmanzano on Instagram.

No make-up. But ah, nothing like big sunnies and salon blown hair to make anybody look decent

So yeah, that's me after blo. Like a donya. On her day off.

PS - A blow out, any style, is Php500. Kids and guys are charged Php300. They also have bridal packages and party packages. If you have a special date or an important event to go, and you do not have time to go home and get changed, just go to blo. Nothing like a shampoo and blowout to get you looking as fresh as a new day.

PPS - To get your blowout to last longer, you can always use dry shampoo. That's what I did, heehee.

Musings on Hair

So my SIL Lorr had this brilliant thought the other day. She said it would be the ultimate if we had a helper who was trained to do blow outs. I mean, imagine having perfect hair every day? You don't even need to go to a salon to get your hair done. Imagine too, not having to worry about hiring a hair stylist to do your hair when you have a big party to attend?

My BFF Nina is lucky because she has perfect hair everyday. When she goes to work, a hairstylist takes care of styling her hair, after all, she's on TV every day.

This is Nina. Yes, she looks like this every single day...(photo by Dar Ramos)

Meanwhile, every day I go out with limp, and often fly away hair. Like this:

One time, Berry, Nana & I visited Nina at work. And I was complaining about my yucky hair. She asked her hairstylist to do something about my hair, and tadaaaaa - in less than 2 minutes, with just a few flicks of her wrist using a hair straightener, she came up with this:

My hair looked like it had volume, body and waves, for a change!

That same afternoon, I ended up buying a Babyliss ionic/ceramic hair dryer in Landmark Trinoma, sponsored by my mom heehee. Nina helped me choose, it's a French brand that she swears by. Sarap the feeling to have nice hair talaga every day, I felt so "polished". Amazing what nice hair can do! I just wish I have the discipline to really take time to do my hair each day.

And I really promise na I will buy the best straightener ever! Her stylist used something like this, a straightener with wide tongs.

Now if only I can learn how to use one. Better yet, if Lorr & I can find a helper who knows how! Hey, do you ladies know where one can learn how to do blow outs? Kind of like a hair workshop or something? I am serious!

Bop Baby Bop

When Dada brought home a package from Anne of Bop Baby Bop, Berry couldn't resist opening it before I could even take a picture, she was just too excited. She must have known there were all these goodies inside for her:

An adorable rosette clip:

Soft stretchy headbands in pastel colors - they are so delicate and made with thought (look! Anne even knows that Berry's real name is "Lauren", without asking me!) and care so it's safe even for newborns to wear:

And cute clips!

All these pieces are handmade by Anne, and she sources all her materials - grosgrain and silk ribbons from abroad, mostly the US. She only makes limited pieces, so each design is special. Of course, they also come packaged so prettily, so they are gorgeous presents to give to your favorite toddler.

Anne also makes custom accessories like birthday girl hair bows and clips that will match your little girl's party theme! To see more of Anne's designs, click HERE.

According to Anne, "My mom used to make my hairbows when I was a toddler, and now it's my turn to make them for my daughter. I never thought of selling them, until a few months ago, when I gave them out as gifts to friends, they were asking were I bought them. I told them I made them and they encouraged me to try selling them. They were my first customers. LOL."

Pretty clips are always a great find for mommies/aunts/grandma's of little girls! Thanks so much Anne!!! Berry loves everything!

I Want Clemence Poesy Hair

Hmmm, these days I am regretting that I cut my hair short. It doesn't help that Dada teases me that I look like a boy sometimes. Well, I can't help it that I love guys clothes and I am totally into the tomboy trend. But yeah, I guess longer hair would make my look less boyish.

So there, whenever I see girls on TV or on the street with long tousled hair (you know like Clemence Poesy's, straight from the roots but tumbling to more body and waves from the ears or chin down), I get wistful thinking about my hair before I cut it. I wish I just trimmed it. But then again, with the heat these days, maybe it was a good decision.

But. I observed that if a girl has glam hair, even if she wears regular clothes, she still looks glam. You know, like this:

Clemence on the set of Gossip Girl. Hmmm, I like her saddle bag too...

Thing is, I feel like this hairstyle is so hard to achieve. I have thin straight hair. And I have no plans of putting on extensions just to create body. I also do not want Kardashian curls (or shall I say kurls) because theirs look so unnatural and "manufactured". I can just imagine the amount of chemicals and heat used to achieve that look. I want hair, as usual, the French way = natural, a bit messy with some strands out of place, but still sexy hair.

Anyhoo, while waiting for my hair to grow, I decided to research on how I could get those soft, natural looking waves. It was back to the drawing board - hair straightening implements once more! No curling irons, because I want a jumble of soft curls and not tightly wound 18th century curls ok?

I bought a travel sized hair straightener from Phillips at Target before, but since that's itty bitty, I won't get the big waves. So here I am again, at a crossroads. CHI or ghd? Well, I still have maybe 4 months to get my hair to reach the desired length. In the meantime, I have pretty much decided I am getting one online. The question is which?

I can't seem to find an official CHI tools site. There's one that has hair straighteners on sale from 40% to 70% off but it seems dodgy. From $200+ to $70, for realz? Anybody bought anything here before? Now, to find cheap ghd straighteners is probably a long shot. The cheapest one is £ 99. But this is the official website and undoubtedly legit. Big discrepancies in price and online sites, so the question is, where to go? Cheap but dodgy (too good to be true?) or expensive but legit (sureball!)? We're talking 100% difference in price, between two brands that are supposedly the best.

I know. I am over analyzing this. But hello, this is hair we are talking about here! Aaargh! Clemence, this is your fault! I want your hair!

Top Bun

Two years ago, I would often bump into a Korean mother-daughter tag team while out shopping. Like, I'd see them at least once a week, almost everywhere. I knew it was them because they were the only mother-daughter duo I would see walking around town with their hair up in a bun, their maxi skirts sweeping the ground even while wearing platform sandals.

Who knew those two were style psychics or something (well, maxi skirts are back, took a long time coming!). Seeing a hair trend here on Amlul and Chic Muse:

Would you put up your hair in a high bun like this too?
