Hair Free Diary: Leg Hair Laser Removal, Session 4

After three sessions of leg hair laser removal at Wink, my legs look virtually hairless now. I can go and do Pilates without worrying if I could wear cropped pants.

This is how growth looks like up close after 3 sessions, a vast improvement from the second session already!

It has been a month since my 4th session and there is no hair growth, no visible stubbles even. My legs feel so smooth and hairless, I really think this is the best decision I have ever made! I don't even know why I hesitated having my leg hairs lasered when it's so life changing!

I am really just half way through the full 8 sessions recommended, but seeing how effective Wink is, I can totally imagine that I won't ever have to worry about leg hairs, EVER!

Thank you Holly and my Wink therapists for such an amazing experience. After 8 sessions and regular touch-ups, I am 100% sure I don't need to shave, sugar or wax  for life! Woohoo!

Hair Free Diary: Leg Hair Laser Removal, Session 3

Every 6 weeks or so, I have an appointment with Alma at Wink. Alma is not my laser therapist, Alma is the Alma Soprano Accord, the hair removing laser machine that zaps my hair follicles to kingdom come, with close to minimal pain - more of just discomfort from the heat and slight stings.

And now, the highlights and observations after two sessions of laser hair removal:

Finer & Slower Hair Growth. As you can see here, after my second session, I was pretty good at not shaving off the hair that had grown, so it grew out finer than it did before. Then again, my hair was growing at a much much slower pace, so there was really no need to shave.

Hair growth was so fine that I could still wear shorts or dresses. People would have to go super close to my legs for them to see leg hair.

This was pretty liberating. Unlike pre-laser where I had to hide my legs and wear pants when I haven't had the time to shave. Even post-laser session 1, where I still had to shave around 3 times before the second session to get rid of leg hair.

Hair would fall off at the slightest tug. After about three weeks after the second session, I did have a satisfying time helping ease out hair with dead follicles by picking at it with my bare nails. OMG. It was so fun pulling them out because there was no struggle at all. I did of course keep the ones that were still rooted.

Wider area of bald spots. It's definitely a visible improvement from the first session, where teeny tiny dark stubbles of hair were still sprouting, as you can see below.

For my third session, my therapist had to increase the heat setting as it was getting harder to target leg hairs since growth had been finer and harder to spot. The good news was that it was still bearable. It also helps that I have seen results and I am more willing to suffer the discomfort knowing that I am closer to saying bye bye to unsightly leg hair. 

It has been what, 4 weeks since I had my third session, and there is hardly any growth anymore. Will update you on developments as I get into my fourth session. All I know for now is that I am so relieved that I no longer have to dress based on my leg hair situation, haha.

Between us online friends, I just wanted to show you what 1 session of Laser hair removal at Wink looks like.

I am pretty impressed. There are bald spots already where hair has not grown back, and the ones that have grown are much thinner than they used to be. The stubbles that you see, where hair has not sprouted out yet in this photo eventually came out, but it took a while.

I kind of went over my 6 week appointment and came back just yesterday, so I kind of shaved it off a couple of times already. Hair did grow a bit coarser after two to three shaves but I am pretty much happy with how there really is less hair growth after just 1 session.

Keep you posted after my 3rd and 4th session! I am supposed to see results after the 4th visit!

Hair Free Diary: Leg Hair Laser Removal, Session 1

Before Wink Laser & Wax Studio, getting my unwanted hair removed via laser was something I would never consider. First, the cost put me off. Second, salons offering reasonably priced laser services didn't look assuring enough.

Thanks to Wink's owner Holly Chang & beauty blogger Liz Lanuzo, who invited me to check out Wink just when it opened, my entire perspective changed.

I like well-designed spaces (Buensalido+Architects designed, no less). The fact that it was super clean and spotless, without being clinical, was another come on. Plus, of course, I got a great deal on 2 underarm diode sessions via Deal Grocer, which kind of sealed the deal for me to continue with my underarm laser hair removal "project".

I have had 4 sessions to date, with 4 more to go. So far, I am quite happy with the results. My underarm hair has considerably lessened, and hair growth has been slower and thinner. 

I found that while the initial laser sessions were more like I was being tickled aggressively, I have been feeling the heat with the last two ones. My laser therapist says as the sessions progress, they need to increase the energy to really disable follicles from producing more hair. But the great news is, no burned skin whatsoever!

Having seen promising results so far, I've just gotten my lower leg hair lasered as well. I am honestly sick of being forced to wear pants or leggings during days when I am too lazy to shave, heehee.

 

The laser room at Wink 

To assure you that laser hair removal really isn't something to be feared, I am sharing with you the blow by blow on laser hair removal. To make it less mysterious. Hahaha!

First things first, my laser therapist laid out all the tools she needed to start on a session: disposable razor, protective goggles for me and for herself, sanitizing and cleaning liquids, cotton balls, etc.

After wiping down the leg to clean and sanitize it, the hair on my legs, which were actually more like stubbles, were shaved off.

Cold gel was then applied on one leg first.
 

The right amount of energy is set on the machine, and the laser hand piece with "Sapphire Chill Tip" (to keep skin constantly cool) is applied to the target area.

It just takes a couple of minutes, and the feeling I got was not painful, but not exactly pleasant either. I'd say it's a fair enough feeling considering how my leg hair follicles were zapped to kingdom come.

After repeating the same for the other leg, the therapist applied a cream to prevent itching and redness, it was probably anti-bacterial too. I was not really paying attention anymore after a back to back underarm and leg hair laser removal session haha. But I remembered not to wet the area for 6-8 hours.

It has been over a week since I had this done, and so far, leg hair is growing slower than usual. Also noticed bald spots in some areas.  My therapist said I should expect hair to fall off by the 4th week. So looking forward to that!
