Mom Recipe Swap + My Lee Kum Kee Laced Recipe + A Recipe Contest

Lee Kum Kee hosted a fun (yes it's fun for us moms who have kids and husbands complaining "yan na naman!" during meal times) recipe swap using Lee Kum Kee sauces

Hay nako, my shot at kitchen stardom was foiled thanks to a government agency that shall not be named.

You see, I was supposed to share my Arroz ala Cubana recipe at the Lee Kum Kee Mom Recipe Swap a couple of weeks ago. But well, I was at said agency's office at the time, and I was super stressed, I was not able to take the frantic calls of Kris's girls. They needed my recipe and ingredients en punto, because they had to prepare for the event, and well, I could not be reached. So ayan, no recipe from me, my dears.

Sayang I wasn't able to demo, but I'll share it with you later promise. First, you better know you've got 4 new recipes from my fellow moms, Suzi Abrera, Michelle Aventajado, Michelle Lim and Eliza Santiago that you may also prepare for your family.

They're all soo good, I tried them all, and I am so happy I have 4 more to add to our arsenal.
Eliza Santiago, Michelle Lim, Suzi Abrera, and Michelle Aventajado shared their tried and tested recipes using Lee Kum Kee Oyster Sauce

The secret ingredient? Lee Kum Kee Oyster Sauce.

As soon as I got home, I gave the print out of the recipes to our cook, Ate Weng, so she has new ones to practice on. For these alone, I am still glad I attended the Recipe Swap, even if I didn't get to share my recipe.

Print this out, and enjoy!

As if that's not enough, here's my promised recipe. Trust me na lang when I say it's good.

It's a recipe from my mom that I took with me when Dada and I first moved to the States, and I tweaked it by taking out the tomato sauce and replacing with Lee Kum Kee oyster sauce. Dada and I enjoyed this dish at least once a week when we were living in the U.S. Well for one, it was like one of the 10 recipes I learned that I was confident enough to cook. Second, it's really yummy! Ahihihi.

I really think the oyster sauce rounds up the flavor nicely, that it is so much better than tomato sauce.

Caveat though, I do not have the exact measurements as I tend to just throw the ingredients together, but I'll try to estimate here.

Tin's Arroz ala Cubana Recipe

Ingredients
a sprinkling of oil
1 small onion
4 cloves garlic
300 grams ground beef
1 big potato
1 carrot
1 bell pepper
1/4 cup raisins
1/2 cup of green olives
1/4 cup water
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp Lee Kum Kee Oyster Sauce
1 tbsp sugar
salt and freshly milled pepper to taste

Instructions
1. In a pan over medium heat, heat about 1 round of oil from a dispenser.
2. Add onions and garlic and cook until softened.
3. Add the ground beef and cook until lightly browned. Drain excess fat.
4. Add the diced potato, toss around. Add soy sauce, water and Lee Kum Kee Oyster Sauce.
4. Bring to a boil for about 1 to 2 minutes, add sugar and stir until dissolved.
5. Lower heat, cover and simmer until meat is cooked through and liquid is mostly reduced. Add carrots, bell peppers, raisins and olives. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
6. Serve with steamed rice, fried eggs and fried saba (For those based abroad, look for the frozen saba in Filipino stores if plantains are not cutting it.)

Come to think of it, it might be good that I didn't get to show off this recipe at the Recipe Swap. Because I can enter this to win Php25,000 WORTH OF KITCHENWARE GCs from Lee Kum Kee. Hee Hee.

Do you wish you could plan your family meals and work on your grocery list at the same time? There's an app for that too!

And I am not talking three different apps. The Great Food App by San Miguel Pure Foods covers all that and more!

I attended the launch a few days ago and I can see how any homemaker, or whoever it is in charge of the family's meals, would have a much easier life with this app. It's heaven sent!

You've got a treasure trove of recipes to choose from - be it for breakfast, lunch, dinner or merienda.

Can't follow a recipe by reading? You can go check out the instructional videos instead!

Ok, let's say your husband wants something pepper-y, then tap on search, and type in "pepper". All the recipes with pepper as a main ingredient will pop up. Easy peasy.

You can even add the ingredients from the recipe page straight to your grocery list, just tap on "Add to Grocery List"!

Once you've decided on the recipes you like, you can start planning your menu by week. Or if you still can't decide, then go for the suggested meal plans and take it from there.

The Great Food App works on both iPhones and Android phones. Download it, and make it work for you.

So you can spend more time doing the things you'd rather do, like bake with the kids or prepare a feast for the family, instead of spending precious hours racking your brain thinking of what to feed them!
