Lock & Lock Opens at Shangri-la East Wing

I remember when Lock & Lock first released their airtight containers, it was so revolutionary. No spills, food would stay fresh, and there was some sort of satisfaction from hearing that clicking/locking sound. Remember, this was the time when Tupperware was like the bees knees.

My mom bought a lot, and I remember buying for myself too, because they made such fantastic lunch containers. By the time Lock & Lock launched Boroseal, it was heaven sent, with everyone so paranoid about the BPA in plastic.

Again, I stocked up on a lot, because it was also convenient to use. I could store food in the fridge and heat food in the microwave without transferring containers.

Turns out it can go from oven to table too! We could portion off baked macaroni into smaller Boroseal containers, popping a small glass container into the oven as needed.

So when my friend Michelle aka My Mom Friday invited me and the SoMoms to the newly opened Lock & Lock store in Shangri-la East Wing, I was naturally excited. It was as good as being invited to a shopping party at Bergdorfs.

As expected, the Lock & Lock store has in fact become a treasure trove for people like me looking for innovative storage solutions.

I bought this First Aid Kit, which can also double as a crafting box with all these perfectly sized compartments:

All my friends were raving about their Freezer Containers. I ended up getting a total of 4 sets, because it makes so much sense to portion off meat, fishballs, chicken into cooking/serving portions. And they look so neat in the freezer too. I might just end up getting a few more.

Also spotted these Interlock Glass Food Storage containers which can be screwed together, so you can stack them one on top of the other, with no fear of toppling.

A wooden container with plastic drawers, for storing makeup, pens, note cards or other small items.

I used to buy a separate lunch box for our Lock & Lock containers, but now they have insulated lunch boxes made to fit their containers perfectly.

This one's big enough to pack for a picnic.

I was tempted to get these too - bins for laundry, toys or what nots. I like the natural linen ones, very chic.

More than just storage solutions, Lock & Lock has also come up with a line of cookware, called SpeedCook, which guarantees to cut your cooking time in minutes.

I love this grill pan from SpeedCook, which I won during our cook off. It has an elevated center so it drains fat. Perfect for cooking bacon, or grilling liempo. At Php1,699 it's not expensive too!

What's best, you hardly need oil to cook on a SpeedCook because of its non-stick surface. We also use the grill pan to cook egg fritata, chicken barbeque, even pork barbeque on a stick. If there's one thing you have to buy at Lock & Lock, it's this grill pan.

Warning though, I cannot guarantee you could walk away from the store with just one thing.

MUJI Clothes are Love

Inside the newly opened MUJI at the East Wing of Shangri-la Mall

MUJI is not the first place I would go to for clothes, but they’ve been doing such a great job with their clothing selection lately that I find myself browsing the clothing area much longer than I usually do the organization, stationery, travel and home sections.

the ladies section

the men's section

Just check out my favorites from my most recent visit, all made from natural fibers like cotton or linen:

striped white & navy dress (Php2,250) with a J. Crew necklace

French linen dress in dark brown (Php2,250) with a Marc by Marc Jacobs necklace

blue hemp tunic dress (Php2,850), white Jil Sander shirt not included

dark brown linen dress (Php2,850) w/ a Natalya Lagdameo necklace

navy linen blouse (Php2,250) w/ a Joyce Makitalo necklace

linen/cotton slub drapey cardigan (Php2,850)

Also love how these separates look great when layered. Like so:

To be honest, I have only skimmed the surface with these 6 pieces. There was so much more to like, I had to stop myself from pulling every other piece out.

If you appreciate that chic Japanese pared-down aesthetic, you know where to go.

PS - Oh, I just bought a couple of those acrylic storage boxes at the newly opened MUJI at the East Wing of Shangri-la Mall, and I can’t seem to stop buying them. I always think of an excuse why I need more, seriously. I have a box for Dada’s stuff, a box for my makeup, a box for my accessories, and so on. It is just genius!

In the Philippines, MUJI is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists, Inc. (SSI) and is located at Shangri-la Plaza East Wing, Robinsons Magnolia, Bonifacio High Street, Power Plant Mall at Rockwell Center, Greenbelt 3 and SM Mall of Asia. Open for a limited period only in Alabang Town Center and 158-Designers Blvd in Podium.

Petit Bateau Sails to Manila

French bébés have it good.

Many of them grow up wearing Petit Bateau, the well-loved clothing brand from Troyes, France that is not only chic, but fun to wear and well made too.

It is easy to look effortlessly stylish when you open up to a closet filled with pieces like these

How well made? Well, they're built to last, long enough to be passed on from sibling to sibling, parent to child in fact. As the brand likes to say, "Petit Bateau, It's forever."

I totally agree. When I was pregnant with Berry, I wore these Petit Bateau striped shirts:

4 months pregnant with Beriray

almost 7 months pregnant with Beriray

And you know what, these shirts look the same as when I first bought them, even after years of washing. Good enough to be passed on to Beriray herself. That is how hard-wearing the quality is.

The thick cotton tank tops I bought for Berry when she was 2, she can pass on to Xavi, except for the pink ones printed with cupcakes, of course.

Should we blessed with another baby, Xavi's thin cotton Petit Bateau crawlers still have a lot of wear to them.

So of course, I am loving it that a smart, young couple, Hans and Mellie Yao, brought Petit Bateau to our shores. Because if you are the type to go for classic clothes that stand for quality over quantity, then Petit Bateau is the way to go. It also helps that the clothes are full of nautical charm. Just the way I love it!

From underwear to swim trunks, crew neck shirts to the classic striped Marinière, shorts, skirts and dresses, cardigans, pea coats and rain coats, Petit Bateau has it all.

Last Saturday,  the second Petit Bateau store opened in SM Aura. Chic mommies Donna Cuna-Pita, Ria Prieto, Ria Trillo, Vanessa Ledesma, Marilen Montenegro, Cheska Kramer and my best friend Nina Corpuz-Rodriguez, with their cute kids in tow, walked the runway to show the latest Spring/Summer collection. It was too adorbs! And the clothes? I can't say chic enough. They were, tres chic!

Summer 2013 Sunnies: Prada

Still can't get enough of summer sunnies? Prada has great ones as well. From classic tortoiseshell ones to the statement pair below:

For me, the Portrait sunnies from Fall 2012 is the standout. The curvy acetate detail on top embellished with purple stones evoke the illusion of a unibrow yes, but a fabulous one at that.

I believe Frida Kahlo would approve.

But if understatement is your thing, here are choice frames to choose from:

Apart from sunglasses, there are geek chic lenses for you, fabulous four eyed friends. These have the classic Prada logo on the temples.

Buy your Prada Portrait sunnies and see the rest of the collection at Adora, LS Pascual Rockwell/Shangri-la, Sarabia Rockwell and Almeda Shangri-la.

Wait for more of my posts on the hottest shades of summer from BLI. In the meantime, for updates, follow LuxuryEyewearPH on Twitter and Instagram and Like them on Facebook!
