FitKids for Summer!

ATTN: Parents in the Greenhills area with kids 3-10 years old!

If your kids are like mine, wanting to do at least 3 different activities this summer, save yourself the money, stress and gas. FitKids might be a good fit into your summer schedule - with art, cooking and sports classes niftily packaged into one program.

FitKids: The Active Summer Camp is one of the first Fitness and Health Summer Camps for kids here in Manila, where they can do Zumba, light boxing, HIIT (which stands for High Intensity Interval Training) strength building, basketball, cooking and art activities related to health and fitness.

Scheduled to start this April 2015 at the Greenhills West Clubhouse, FitKids make up a total of 9 sessions (Scheduled for April 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24) of a 3-hour activity-packed day. Enough to keep them interested and occupied this summer, without overwhelming yourself, shuttling from class to class, because all these happen in once place!

Cooking healthy meals

FitKids is powered by three powerful brands related to health and fitness ‐ Elorde Gym, Fruit Magic, and HIIT Philippines.

Their program for FitKids aims to teach young children the importance and benefits of keeping fit and active, at the same time highlighting teamwork, and inculcating character-building values while in their critical formative years, where they absorb everything they learn.

Interested? You may want to sign up before February 15 to get the Early Bird Rate of P7,500 per child. Regular rate is P8,000 per child. Still a reasonable deal, rather than enrolling your kids to 5 different classes this summer!

The 411 on Ready Steady Go Kids

I thought it best to run you through what Ready Steady Go Kids is all about, so here's the 411 ;)

Xavi jumping through hurdles, with RSGK's Coach Sonny cheering him on

Ready Steady Go Kids (RSGK) is Australia's largest multi-sport and exercise program for kids aged 2.5 to 7 years old, and is now here in Manila.

5 sports are covered per term. This includes: Soccer, Tennis, Hockey, AFL, Cricket, Athletics, Basketball, Rugby, Golf and T-ball.

For this current term, Term 1 2015 (starts January 24, 2015), it's Football, Basketball, Golf, Cricket and Athletics for the Valle Verde V and Treston locations. For City Club, it's Football, Tennis, Hockey, Rugby and T-ball.

Qualified instructors with early childhood and coaching experience teach each class. They have a Level 1 Coaching Certificate from Australia and to assuage our typical parent concerns - they are trained in First Aid.

Coaches are always ready to teach, assist and support the kids

What do the kids get out of RSGK?

Gross and fine motor skills are developed, as well as hand-eye and foot-eye coordination through RSGK's activities.  This is especially useful if your kids need development in these areas. It's almost like therapy!

Because kids are in a group, they learn the concepts of sportsmanship, as well as learning important life skills like cooperation, playing by the rules, and taking turns.

More than just exposure to other kids, my kids were taught how it is to be part of a team

RSGK is a sportier version of play school. For kids who are about to enter preschool or are in preschool, the program teaches concentration, following directions, even basic concepts of colors, numbers and shapes. Which of course, also helps them get ready for when they are in a real classroom setting.

Because RSGK introduces kids to different sports at such a young age, it helps them cultivate a love for sports and exercise, which they may carry on into their adult years, and shape their attitude towards life in general - which is, cross fingers, that of a champion!

Lastly, RSGK aims for their students to be able to have at least a basic understanding of different sports, which will also help them zoom in into the one or two they are most passionate about.

Fantastic no? Each term of 10 sessions is Php9,995. For a FREE TRIAL, contact Ready Steady Go Kids at the numbers listed below.

And for those who cannot make it to the first session of TERM 1, 2015, no worries! The RSGK program is designed in such a way that new students can come in at any time within the term, and make up for missed sessions in the following term.

Kiddie Activity: Ready Steady Go Kids

For the past three months, my friends and I put our kids through  Ready Steady Go Kids partly because:

1) We wanted our kids to really sweat it out the old fashioned way - running around playing sports in the "open air", rather than in an air conditioned venue.  And...
2) We wanted to have an excuse to meet up to chika, while the kids got their weekly dose of supervised play.

And what fun it was! My friends and I actually looked forward to each Ready Steady Go Kids session, with a scheduled lunch out after pa. If only for that, sulit na.

But the greater joy was seeing our kids trying their best at each and every sport they were introduced to. All the more when we saw them doing well, when hitting a hockey puck or a tennis ball seemed so natural for them. Even more so just seeing them having fun, and watching their faces beam with pride when their coaches would enthusiastically compliment them for hitting a ball right smack where it should hit, or for sending a puck flying across the court.

My friends and I were talking about this. What we liked about Ready Steady Go is that we weren't committing to one sport for one whole term. Because what it really is about is introducing the kids to different sports and fun activities, to also help them discover what they enjoyed, and what challenged them the most.

In ten sessions, they got to try kicking around soccer balls.

Playing with hula hoops.

Mucking about with a hockey stick and puck.

Raising a racket over tennis.

And getting a feel of what it's like to play rugby.

All these coupled with fun warm-ups and circle activities where kids can interact with other kids.

Curious? Enrollments are now open for Term 1, 2015. When you enroll before January 24, 2015 you get to save with their Early Bird enrollment promotion.

Here's the schedule for next term, for each of the three locations where Ready Steady Go Kids hold classes:

You may also book a trial class for your kid/kids before enrolling. Simply call (02) 631-1497 or email info@readysteadygokids.com.ph - so easy!

Chug on the Go, with Contigo

If there is no such thing as too many sippy cups for kids, then us big ones can't get enough water and drink bottles either.

Even if you have ten on rotation, don't you just want one with say, a storage compartment?

That's what Contigo is all about, a premier travel mug and water bottle brand that has found its way to our shores, after gaining popularity in the US, Europe, Middle East, South America, Australia, and Japan.

What makes Contigo different is that they offer solutions to the challenges that concern people with active lifestyles. I mean, how can you get into that state of Zen if your keys and class cards are splayed about with your water bottle and towel? Would you enjoy seeing your coffee overflowing into your car's cupholder as you navigate that speed bump? Or think about the lukewarm taste of water while biking the Nuvali bike trail. Not fun right?

With unique bottle features like 100% leak and spill-proof caps, heat retention of up to 4 hours, and cool retention of up to 12 hours, Contigo's line of simple yet functionally innovative and environmentally friendly drinkwares will treat customers to a mess-free and refreshing beverage experience every single time.

Doesn't hurt that they look great too. Nikki Ng of Contigo Philippines sent us these lovely Contigo water bottles. Love how they're sporty yet sleek, and come in these fun, jewel toned colors.

Ever since 2003, Contigo has continuously been featured in publications like Good Housekeeping, CBS News, The New York Times, and the Oprah Magazine.

In 2007, BusinessWeek named Contigo’s Patented AutoSeal stainless steel mug as a Bronze IDEA recipient.

Whatever style you choose, you and the kiddos can chug on the go, with Contigo.

Get your Contigo at Bikram Yoga Outlets and Baby Couture stores. You may also place an order online via their Facebook Page.

Sunpocket Sunnies at Terminal

For a supposed Francophile and eyewear enthusiast, Sunpocket was just a blip in my radar until Mike Te of Terminal, a streetwear shop at the Deck of Ronac Art Center in Greenhills, told me the Sunpocket story and said that he had them in his store.

Curiosity got the best of me, so I trekked to his store along with Berry and my sister Dianne and finally saw for myself what Sunpocket was all about.

Sunpocket = cute, lightweight and foldable sunnies that come in a range of colors

I liked them at first sight. These are the kind of sunnies you don't have to worry about scratching, breaking or losing. Lightweight and made of plastic, they are also tough enough to withstand extreme activities. Foldable and packs in a compact case, it fits in your pocket so you don't have to worry about where to keep them. Not too precious too that you can enjoy yourself in the great outdoors.

According to Mike, Sunpocket is a contemporary accessories brand rooted in ski and surf culture.

Its story traces back to the late 1970’s where Sunpocket’s signature foldable shades gained a strong following in the French ski community. Ten years later, Sunpocket had become immensely popular all over Europe.

Sunpocket was re-launched in 2011. With its legacy of innovative and distinctive sunglasses, Sunpocket established itself as a brand known for its style, authenticity and quality.

Internationally, Sunpocket’s sunglasses are sold in 25 countries, including premium accounts such as Colette Paris, Corso Como Seul, Excelsior Milano, Opening Ceremony in NYC, LA and Tokyo, American Rag (LA), Cali Roots, (Stockholm) Beams (Japan), Lane Crawford (Hong Kong), Burton Flagship Stores (USA), Selfridges & Co (UK), Oipolli (UK), and online at www.sunpocketoriginal.com.

Here in the Philippines, Sunpocket is available exclusively at Terminal. Plus the good news is, pricing is in line with all the other stockists all around the world. So you don't have to seek them out at countries where you can get them cheaper. Prices start at Php2,500. The collection here is up to date too.

The 2013 Collection will be at Terminal by next week, week of June 17th:

Mike shares that the more popular style for women are the Samoa and Tonga models since the size is perfect for most women here. For guys it's between the Sport and II models. "Generally the Sport model is the one used most for outdoor activities like surfing, skiing, golfing and various water sport activities.", Mike explains.

I hope Mike brings in these cool leather and neoprene cases too:

But wait! That's not all. While we are on the subject of Terminal, I might as well share with you too that Terminal carries a lot of cool stuff. Like these  "designer logo" tees:

And locally made camo iPad cases:

Terminal also carries sneakers, shirts from ssur, and so much more. Now watcha waiting for?
