Food Intolerance Testing: 2 Months Later

I just wanted to update you on how I've been doing since I took the Food Intolerance Test of Hi-Precision Diagnostics in December, and  began to consciously make an effort to avoid food I shouldn't be eating by February.

Yes, it took me a while to accept the results. I was not ready to give up on eating cake, cheese, and all my other favorites. But I figured, what is the test for if I do not do anything about it?

And so, while I could not do a complete 3 month fasting of the food items I was reactive to, I just made sure I had minimal intake of them. Like I've totally stopped eating cheese. Instead of ordering a latte, I get an Americano. I have probably had only 3 slices of cake in the last two months. I occasionally (read once a week) give in to eating cookies and bread but that's about that.

Well guess what, apart from more energy that I spoke of in my Breaking Bread post, I realized that there are two more health benefits gained since.

1. No more morning colds. I used to wake up sneezing and having to blow my nose. But come lunch time, it would disappear. I don't suffer from that any more. We used to have to turn on our Blueair air purifier each night because I thought it was dust causing my sneezing. But no. Ever since I started watching what I ate, there has been no need to turn on the air purifier any more.

2. Bloating and gas, good bye. I thought my being bloated and gassy (I could burp loudly, like an annoying teenage jock) had something to do with being pregnant. But it didn't go away after I gave birth to Tepper. It finally disappeared, when cheese, baked goods, and dairy started to disappear from my daily meals. True story.

So there. I'm feeling better than ever, and seeing these results, I do feel incentivized to avoid the food products on my Elevated Foods list.  If there are any more pleasant health changes I've noticed, I shall keep you posted.

If you'd like to find out what food items you are intolerant of, visit a Hi-Precision Diagnostics branch nearest you, or request for home service, like we did! Call (632) 741-7777 to schedule and visit www.hi-precision.com.ph for more details.

Breaking Bread

Here's some new knowledge I've got to share with you, especially if you often feel bloated, tired, or suffer from migraines.

If you've been feeling unwell all these years, and you've chalked it up to age, or your body just getting more sensitive these days, don't blame yourself.

It could be the food you eat that's causing it.

At least, that's the premise behind the most talked about test in town - Food Intolerance Testing, which I took through Hi-Precision Diagnostics, upon the urging of my friend Mel Ongsue-Lee.

The results were so enlightening, I have already made a conscious habit of avoiding dairy...

Dairy-free Coconut Milk Drink by So Delicious, available at SM Hypermart and Spice Island Trader in San Juan

And taking a break from bread. Beautiful bread. "Bread, break na tayo!"

How to stay gluten-free when in Paul Boulangerie? Gluten-free Paillassons Champignons

So yes, you can guess by now that I am intolerant to dairy and gluten. Anything that has to do with cow's milk and wheat, I've got to say bye bye. For now at least. (According to Mel, just avoiding food we are intolerant with for three months, already has significant effects on our sensitivity to it.)

Dada & I took the test back when I was almost due with Tepper.  I figured, since I was about to breastfeed again soon, and also anticipating a season of sleepless nights, I better find out which foods I should avoid, because "Bawal magkasakit!"

Mel scheduled to have a phlebotomist from Hi-Precision come to our home to take blood samples. (Yes! they do home service, so convenient!)

Bright and early, and getting my blood drawn. Yuh. I woke up like dis.

He asked us to fill up some forms, he drew some blood, and that was that!

Sooner than soon, the results came out. The food intolerance test results look like this. Segregated according to 1) Food Groups.

Food Group segregation allows you find alternatives from the same food group

and by 2) Order of Reactivity.

As with traffic lights, Red means stop, Yellow proceed with caution and green means go

It was kind of sad that a lot of my favorite foods fell into the red and yellow categories, but hey, if that's what it takes to be in tip top shape, then avoid is the way to go.

I am happy to report that ever since I consciously made an effort to avoid the food items in the red group, I am feeling less lethargic and more energetic.

I mean seriously, pre-Food Intolerance Testing, there were days when I always felt too tired, and I'd blame it on not having enough energy to take care of the family, manage the household and do my work.

But now, I have one more baby in the equation, essentially the same amount of work, and I am doing just fine with enough energy to spare. Yes, despite the sleepless nights!

The Gift of Good Health: Hi-Precision Diagnostics

It wasn't until I met Mel Ongsue-Lee of Hi-Precision Diagnostics did I realize that the power of preventive medicine is available to us right, here in the Philippines!

We got to talk about BRACAnalysis, a type of genetic testing that helps determine whether someone has one of the two genetic mutations – BRCA1 or BRCA2 – that can increase the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. It is the exact test that helped Angelina Jolie decide to have a double mastectomy.

Turns out, Hi-Precision offers the same test, right here. To be exact, the blood is extracted here, but is sent to their partner, Myriad Genetics in the US, to have it analyzed there.

They also have EndoPredict, a multi-gene test for breast cancer patients, which helps a patient decide on the best treatment strategy for them. In a nutshell and in layman's terms, there are some cases in which breast cancer patients are subjected to chemotherapy, even if they don't really need it. This leads to over treatment and exposure to unnecessary side effects and expenses. With EndoPredict, patients can decided on the best individual therapy strategy for them based on the biology of their tumor. (For detailed information on this, contact Hi-Precision at 741-7777)

Mel also says they do paternity tests, another kind of genetic testing, which of course, helps in determining if a guy really is the legitimate father of a kid. Just in case someone you know has such concerns, you know where to go. Hehe.

Curious about these breakthrough tests, I visited Mel at Hi-Precision Plus in Bonifacio Global City, and I have to say I was pretty impressed with the facilities.

Hi-Precision Plus The Fort is at the 3/F of Commercenter Building, by the parking area

I've always associated hospitals and clinics with doctor visits, and laboratories as something where I get blood work and X-rays done and that's about it. But Mel changed all that for me when she explained to me what else they can do.

Because more than just a laboratory, they are a medical diagnostics facility equipped with the latest technology and software. They also have specialists on board, available for consultation.

Everything is laid out so well, with an extraction room:

The Biometrics counter:

A dedicated Drug Testing Lab:

Where they can also do Hair Follicle Drug Testing, if a person refuses to have their blood extracted, for whatever reason. Wink. Wink.

The Imaging section where X-rays and ultrasounds are done:

As well as physicians clinics and clean and sterile examination rooms.

I also noticed on their wall that they offer HIV testing...

And the super popular Food Intolerance Testing that many of my friends have already done themselves. Curious about this too? Well, Dada and I did this, thanks to Mel's convincing and I am excited to share the results with you as soon as we get them!

Meanwhile, let me highlight two more things!

1) Hi-Precision offers home service. If you would like to have some lab work done, but you don't have time to go to their lab, they can send one of their trained nurses to get samples from you at your home or office. If you are a huge household, you can even arrange for your annual physical exams to be done right at home, they can even bring the machines right to you!

Call the Home Service Hotlines at 741 7777/0922 890 6664/0947 896 6617 for inquiries or appointments.

2) Hi-Precision is now in Sta. Rosa, Laguna at Sta. Rosa Estates - which is great news for those living further south.

And they are offering 10% OFF on all laboratory tests until the end of this month, December 31, 2014!

It is close to Paseo de Sta. Rosa and pretty near Nuvali and Ayala Westgrove Heights, for those who are more familiar with these landmarks.

This holiday season, you may want to spend on preventive healthcare instead, and knowing what is available to us now, well, you know where to go! ;)
